How the 'Hopper dancing' meme took this 'Stranger Things' actor by total surprise

Hopper Dancing meme Stranger Things 2 David Harbour

Warning: Spoilers ahead for "Stranger Things" season two.

Partway through "Stranger Things 2," a charming and unexpected moment happens between Hopper (David Harbour) and Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown). As Hopper and Eleven are cleaning up his cabin and turning it into their new home, Hopper puts on a record and starts dancing. Little did Harbour know, but "Hopper Dancing" would become one of the first big memes of "Stranger Things 2."

"I just had no idea or expectations that the 'dad-dancing' or 'white man Hopper dancing' was going to take off," Harbour told INISDER.

A Twitter account dedicated to "Hopper Dancing To (various songs)" sprung up the day after "Stranger Things 2" premiered on Netflix.

"It was funny, when we shot that scene it was supposed to be a bit more serious than it was," Harbour said. "I remember talking to [Shawn Levy, the episode's director] and they had this other song for it. But I love Jim Croce and I thought Hopper would to."

The song Hopper wound up playing in the scene was Jim Croce's "You Don't Mess Around With Jim" from 1972.

"I was so excited to reintroduce the world to Jim Croce because he's one of these guys that never really made it like Bob Dylan or the Beatles or something," Harbour said. "But I really think he's so beautiful as a songwriter and as a performer."

Harbour went into this scene thinking it would be his big chance to help Jim Croce finally blow up with the "Stranger Things" fanbase.

"I thought like, 'I'm going to reintroduce all these kids to Jim Croce and he’s going to really take off," Harbour said. "I expected Jim Croce to take off, I did not expect 'David Harbour's white-man dancing' to take off."

"But of course, that's the thing that hit instead of the Jim Croce," Harbour said. "So now we're putting him next to Wham! and whatever other songs. But I think that's so hilarious."

One of the best parts of this scene is the way Eleven reacts to Hopper's moves and the song.

"I mean she's a little alien telekinetic girl, so I don’t know that she's ever seen a grown man in full khakis dancing before," Harbour said. "I imagine that would be very assaulting and confusing. Even if you've been locked in a room playing mind games your whole life, that might be the scariest thing you've ever seen."

Harbour saw the @HopperDancingTo account (which has been claimed by a Twitter user named Liz) almost immediately. He retweeted one of the videos, which caused director Shawn Levy to chime in, too.

"When I saw that stuff online I tweeted out to the people that it really warmed my heart," Harbour said. "It is such a sweet scene and to have it played to all this different music, I loved it."

Worry not, fans. We haven't seen the last of Harbour's moves as Jim Hopper.

"I feel like I need to have some redemption in season three, I want to really show people that I can actually dance,"  Harbour said. "So I'm going pitch the Duffers for a little more dancing in season three."

  • On Netflix's "Stranger Things 2," Dustin wears a purple dinosaur hoodie.
  • The sweatshirt is a real souvenir from the Science Museum of Minnesota (SMM).
  • SMM is selling the hoodie in child and adult sizes.
  • After crashing the website once, fans have now bought at least $400,000 worth of sweatshirts.
  • You can still buy the sweatshirts (and purple crew neck shirts) on SMM's online store.

Halloween might be over, but the Science Museum of Minnesota is already helping "Stranger Things" fans re-create their favorite character's iconic '80s science-geek look by selling his sweatshirt online.

On episode one of "Stranger Things 2," Dustin Henderson (Gaten Matarazzo) wears a purple hoodie sporting the skeleton of a Brontosaurus from the Science Museum of Minnesota (SMM). The sweatshirt was really sold in the museum beginning in the early 1980s, according to a report from Minnesota Public Radio (MPR).

Now the SMM has brought back the hoodie as part of a full apparel line for children and adults, which includes sweaters and crew neck shirts. Each piece of clothing comes in a deep royal purple and features the "Brontosaurus: Thunder Lizard" branding.

The MSM online shop opened Tuesday at 8 a.m., and featured large banner advertising for the purple dinosaur apparel by saying "as seen in the hit show 'Stranger Things.'"

"Demand quickly overwhelmed the site," MPR reported. "The store was back online at 11 a.m. By 4 p.m., 10,000 units of Thunder Lizard apparel worth about $400,000 had been sold."

Though the store crashed yesterday, you can still buy the sweatshirts (and purple crew neck shirts) on SMM's online store here. According to the SMM website, "proceeds from your purchase support the museum’s ongoing educational and research efforts."

Drake says his new favorite Netflix show hits the 'nail on the head with real human emotions'

Jason bateman on ozark

Celebrities are just like us. They watch Netflix!

In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Drake said that his new obsession is Netflix's original series "Ozark," which came out in July and stars Jason Bateman and Laura Linney

"My taste in television or movies is always kind of similar to my approach to music, which is, I like when people really hit the nail on the head with real human emotions," Drake told THR. "So with 'Ozar,' it's just the family dynamic. The arguments. The love. The struggles. I really relate to how accurate it is."

In honor of Drake's new interest, below is our original review of "Ozark" from July:

What if "Breaking Bad" started in the middle of its run? When Walter White is half-way Heisenberg, but there's still some humanity left.

Imagine if we never got to see White as a chemistry teacher: We just casually see him at work, having dinner with his family. Then suddenly, he pleads for his life with the leader of a Mexican drug cartel.

Trade Bryan Cranston for Jason Bateman (who you probably know as Michael Bluth on "Arrested Development"), and you have Netflix's newest drama, "Ozark."

In "Ozark," Bateman's character, Marty, is somewhat reminiscent of Michael Bluth. He's the slightly awkward dad who's trying really hard to impress his kids. He's hard-working to a fault. But Bateman's performance, even just in the excellent first episode, will convince you he's got acting chops that go far beyond comedy. (Bateman is also executive producer, and directs four out of the ten episodes, including the premiere.)

From creators Mark Williams and Bill Dubuque, "Ozark" follows Bateman's Marty Byrde, a financial planner living in Chicago. In the first minutes, Marty seems like a normal guy. He's good at his boring job, he's a good dad, and is maybe an absent husband to Wendy (the always excellent Laura Linney). But by the end of the episode, you find out Marty has been laundering money for a Mexican drug cartel for years. And he's in trouble: He has to get out of Chicago, and find a way to launder a lot of money for his drug lord boss in very little time.

What separates "Ozark" from "Breaking Bad" is its slow pace (despite a thrilling pilot), and a "fish out of water" element. Worlds collide as the Byrd's suddenly (seriously, within one weekend) pack up their entire life in Chicago and move to the Missouri Ozarks.

The series is good — though not really good. It's worth wasting a weekend on your couch if you have some time.

There are a lot of elements that work. "Ozark" is beautifully shot and the soundtrack is biting, which elevates the tension. And the decision to have Wendy tell the kids what their father is doing, and why they actually moved to the Ozarks, pushes the narrative forward in a way that many other shows wouldn't dare. The kids' knowledge of their dad's illegal side gig provides a unique dynamic, and leads to a punny scene where Marty explains how money laundering works to his son while they're doing laundry.

"Ozark" probably wouldn't work if it didn't have Bateman and Linney leading the way. The secondary characters are all well-acted, particularly Julia Garner as Ruth, who also proved herself a talented young actress on FX's "The Americans." But there's something missing. These other characters, from the Ozark natives to the FBI agents, are just not that engaging or layered enough. You don't really care about who they are or what their motives are, save for Marty and Wendy's son, Jonah, who might have some of his dad's bad side in him.

You can watch the "Ozark" trailer below:

'Stranger Things 2' actor reveals the challenges of filming a major fight scene: 'That was a really messed up day'

Hopper cabin Stranger Things 2

Warning: Spoilers ahead for "Stranger Things" season two.

Over the course of "Stranger Things 2," Jim Hopper (David Harbour) has two intense fight scenes with both Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) and Mike (Finn Wolfhard). When INSIDER spoke with Harbour about the new season of Netflix's hit series, we asked about the experience of entering that aggressive mindset with the young actors.

"It's interesting, it was very different with both of them," Harbour said. "I had to work a lot harder while working with Millie, and I don't know exactly why. I think it's more complicated for me to yell at a young woman that way."

Hopper's argument with Eleven stems from his choice to keep her locked inside a cabin for nearly a year, all while promising she can see Mike and her other friends "soon." When Eleven realizes Hopper might not let her leave, she takes it upon herself to break out.

Eleven crying Stranger Things 2

Upon returning, Hopper disciplines Eleven harshly — grounding her from watching TV (her sole source of comfort and entertainment) and eating Eggo waffles. She lashes out in what the cast and crew have dubbed a "psychic tantrum," using her powers to slam doors, shove a couches into Hopper's side, and finally blowing out all the glass windows in the cabin.

"It was very emotionally complex for me to play that," Harbour said. "That was a really messed up day when we did that scene."

Hopper yelled at Eleven, scolding her for being a "brat" and not taking responsibility for the consequences of putting herself (and him) at risk of being discovered. The scene was a powerful example of two well-meaning characters clashing over a painful reality of the restrictions they're facing.

"I mean I was feeling all messed up about it," Harbour said. "But I did want to treat the scene with the respect it deserves and I wanted to treat Millie [Bobby Brown] with the respect she deserves as my female costar, and really give her my all and my power, and she’s able to give it right back. So that was a very complicated day."

Later in the season, after Mike and Eleven were finally reunited, Hopper once again had an emotional standoff with a younger character.

Hopper and Mike Stranger Things 2 episode nine fight

Upon realizing that Hopper had been hiding Eleven from him, Mike lashed out. He had been worried sick and increasingly more depressed, believing Eleven might be dead. He confronted Hopper angrily before collapsing in his arms and crying as he called him a liar over and over. The scene was one of the most emotionally resonant moments in season two for many fans.

"In terms of the scene with Mike, I gotta say, that was really easy," Harbour said. "I mean, look, I love all the kids equally. But as my parents would say, 'Some months one kid is your favorite and other months a different kid is your favorite,' and I have to say during that sequence, Finn [Wolfhard] really is one of my favorites."

Hopper and Mike bedroom Stranger Things 2

"He's becoming such an interesting little artist," Harbour continued. "He's such a little weirdo. He's so into film and into storytelling, and not into the wrong things — he's really into the right things about it. So in that way I really feel a lot of love for him that I would never express to him directly but I will tell you. I just feel a lot of love for that kid."

Compared to filming his emotional scene with Millie Bobby Brown, Harbour said it was a much faster process for shooting the heated argument with Wolfhard.

"That scene was literally shot in a couple takes," Harbour said. "And it felt so quick and so easy, like 15 minutes. And the fact that the scene has resonated so much is a complete surprise to me, because it felt so natural and so easy to have that day with Finn. I'm just very impressed with him as a young actor and I think he brought so much to that scene that it was super easy to play off. It was like a gift for me as an actor."

Warning: Spoilers ahead for "Stranger Things."

For "Stranger Things" fans who can't get enough of the hit Netflix series, the streaming network has launched a new talk show hosted by Jim Rash called "Beyond Stranger Things." On the series, Rash is joined by cocreators The Duffer Brothers and executive producer Shawn Levy, along with a rotating set of the cast.

Thanks to their conversations, plus interviews over the years, we've been able to roundup behind-the-scenes facts about the writing and production of the series.

Keep reading for a look at 19 things you probably didn't know about "Stranger Things."

The Upside Down was called the Nether in every season one script and on set.

As The Duffer Brothers revealed on "Beyond Stranger Things," the Upside Down was referred to as the Nether in the original scripts and even on set during the first season's filming.

But once series aired and fans honed in on the language used when Eleven and the boys flip over the Dungeons and Dragons board, the term Upside Down stuck.

The Demogorgon was a real guy in a giant suit for the first season.

While season two included plenty of special effects and CGI, the first season's Demogorgon was a man wearing a monster suit and small stilts and small amounts of green clothing so his real arms could be made invisible in the finished scenes.

Finn Wolfhard filmed his audition tape from his bed because he was so sick at the time.

On the first episode of "Beyond Stranger Things," host Jim Rash shares several clips of Finn Wolfhard (Mike), Gaten Matarazzo (Dustin), Caleb McLaghlin (Lucas) and Millie Bobby Brown (Eleven) auditioning for the series.

Wolfhard's entire audition tape, recorded when he was just 11 years old, was filmed from his bedroom because he was really sick.

As Netflix's library of original content  continues to expand and expand, it's worthwhile to take stock of all that the service currently offers.

While the second season of "Stranger Things" is the company's most recent cultural phenomenon, Netflix has a slew of other great original shows — like the serial killer drama "Mindhunter" and the women's wrestling comedy "Glow"— that might have flown under your radar.

Of course, the service has also had its share of flops, including the historical epic "Marco Polo," and the Kathy Bates-led sitcom "Disjointed."

To figure out which Netflix original series are worth your time, we turned to the reviews aggregator Rotten Tomatoes to rank the shows by their composite critical reception.

We excluded any show that did not have enough reviews to receive a designation of "Fresh" or "Rotten." We also did not include children's shows, talk shows, or series that were continued from other networks, and we used audience scores to break any ties.

Mike annoyed Stranger Things 2 dinner

  • "Stranger Things" star Finn Wolfhard (Mike) addressed fans on Twitter Wednesday night.
  • "I don't wanna ex-communicate anyone from this fandom, but if you are for real you will not harass my friends, or co-workers," Wolfhard wrote. "Ya'll know who you are."
  • The tweets came after a series of reports of fans waiting outside the cast's hotels.
  • Wolfhard, 14, continued: "Why I even have to tweet that, I don't know. Anyone who calls themselves a 'fan' and actively goes after someone for literally acting and doing their job is ridiculous. Think b4 ya type boiiii."

The young cast of "Stranger Things" has been the subject of intense attention since the debut of season two of their hit Netflix series. After a series of reports about inappropriate conduct from fans, including adults waiting outside the cast's hotel in the hopes of getting a photo or autograph, Finn Wolfhard (Mike Wheeler) spoke out on Twitter.

"I don't wanna ex-communicate anyone from this fandom, but if you are for real you will not harass my friends, or co-workers," Wolfhard wrote. "Ya'll know who you are."

He continued out, pointing out that it was a bit absurd that a 14-year-old would need to point out that harassing working actors — especially children — is unacceptable behavior.

"Why I even have to tweet that, I don't know," Wolfhard wrote. "Anyone who calls themselves a 'fan' and actively goes after someone for literally acting and doing their job is ridiculous. Think b4 ya type boiiii."

Other "Stranger Things" fans rallied around Wolfhard's comments, agreeing that it was ridiculous to need to remind people of how not to treat young celebrities or their friends.

Wolfhard has been applauded in the past for his handling of public controversies. Last month he fired his agent amid allegations of sexual abuse concerning another young actor. At a time when the ongoing Harvey Weinstein reports (and allegations being made against other powerful Hollywood men) were causing a stir, many saw Wolfhard's quick action as commendable.

Chief Jim Hopper Stranger Things season one E3

  • "Stranger Things" actor David Harbour (Jim Hopper) has been very active on Twitter.
  • One fan asked him how many retweets it would take to get him to come and shoot her senior yearbook photos with her.
  • Harbour said 25,000 — and fans hit that number in less than one day.
  • Now he tells INSIDER that they've arranged to do the photo shoot by February 2018.
  • "We will allow the internet to see the ridiculousness of me as a very sincere high school student taking senior photos," Harbour said.

Less than two days after the premiere of "Stranger Things 2," actor David Harbour — who plays police Chief Jim Hopper — found himself in the midst of a Twitter storm. He had told a fan that, on the condition that she could conjure up 25,000 retweets, he'd take senior yearbook photos with her.

"Seriously, someone should be in charge of my life," Harbour told INSIDER when asked about the Twitter promise. "I'm such an idiot."

In less than a day, both the original fan tweet and Harbour's retweet had more than 25,000 retweets apiece.

"People always say stuff like 'How many retweets to come to my house for Thanksgiving?' or all these things, and then finally when this girl said, 'Take my senior high school photos with me,' I just thought that was so funny," Harbour told INSIDER.

Not only did Harbour promise to take the senior photos, but he lumped on an addendum of wearing her school sweatshirt and holding a trombone.

"The idea of me in a small size sweatshirt of some high school, holding a trombone with this poor girl trying to take her high school photos seriously, I just thought that was so funny," Harbour said.

INSIDER also spoke with the fan, Damaris, via Twitter. She's a senior at Orestimba High School in Newman, California, and says she was shocked when her notification alert told her David Harbour had retweeted her request.

"I was a shaking mess," Damaris said. "I was like, 'Wow did that really happen?'"

Her notifications and mentions quickly overwhelmed her, with thousands of fellow "Stranger Things" fans and even other cast members (like Noah Schnapp, who plays Will Byers) sharing the post.

"I no longer controlled my phone after that — the phone controlled me," Damaris said. "There were so many notifications and people telling me they hope I made the goal."

Once the goal was met, Harbour tweeted again at Damaris and told her to direct message him to set up a time for the photo shoot.

"Yes, 'friends don't lie,'" Harbour told INSIDER, quoting the "Stranger Things" line. "I am completely committed. We have set up a date in January when I'm back from Bulgaria."

Harbour is currently in Bulgaria filming the upcoming "Hell Boy" reboot he's starring in.

"We're gonna take these photos by the time February hits," Harbour said. "She can use them or not use them, because I think they'll be completely ridiculous, but we will allow the internet to see the ridiculousness of me as a very sincere high school student taking senior photos."

Damaris tells INSIDER she's a bit nervous about the upcoming photo shoot.

"It's intense because I play basketball, so I'm just hoping it's not a day we play our rivalry school," Damaris said. "I have no idea whatsoever what to wear, which is nerve racking for me. People are telling me to dress up as characters from the show, but it is my senior photos you know!"

As for Harbour, he's just stoked to be connecting with "Stranger Things" fans through social media as the hype over season two builds.

"I have this weird relationship with Twitter where I'm sporadically on it," Harbour said. "So when the show drops, I find that the social media love for the show is so profound that I really do enjoy hearing what people have to say about it and engaging with them."

Disney’s stock is popping after company says it plans to take on Netflix with a 'substantially' lower priced service (DIS)

 bob iger mickey mouse

  • Disney reported earnings that fell short of expectations, sending the stock down after hours Thursday.
  • But the shares were rising in early trading Friday after the company's conference call during which CEO Bob Iger said the company's streaming service will be priced "substantially below" Netflix.
  • Iger also said ESPN will offer its own streaming service next year.

Shares of Disney rose more than 2% on Friday, reversing late losses from the night before after the company's management touted its plans for a new streaming service that will undercut rival Netflix on pricing.

The gains came even though Disney reported earnings that missed analyst expectations. Shares initially fell nearly 4% in late trading Thursday, after the top and bottom line misses.

Then, on the company's earnings call, CEO Bob Iger told analysts that Disney’s standalone streaming service, which it announced back in August, will be priced “substantially below where Netflix is."

"That is in part reflective of the fact that it will have substantially less volume. It'll have a lot of high quality because of the brands and the franchises that will be on it that we've talked about. But it'll simply launch with less volume, and the price will reflect that," he said.

A similar ESPN streaming product will launch spring 2018, Iger said, fueled by Disney’s $3.75 billion acquisition of the BAMtech digital platform from Major League Baseball.

Earlier this week, CNBC reported that Disney had been in talks with 21st Century Fox about acquiring a bulk of company’s entertainment assets, but Lowell Singer, Disney’s VP of investor relations, quickly jumped in to say the company wouldn’t comment on what it called "press speculation."

Wall Street analysts have an average price target of $110.48 for the stock — 7.6% above Thursday's closing price.

Shares of Disney are up 14.26% over the past year.

  • Netflix has confirmed that it will not be producing a previously planned standup special with comedian Louis C.K.
  • The cancellation follows accusations of sexual misconduct from five women against the comedian in a New York Times report.

Netflix has dropped Louis C.K.'s upcoming standup special.

Following accusations of sexual misconduct against the comedian in a New York Times report on Thursday, Netflix has confirmed to Business Insider that it will not be moving forward with a previously planned second standup special.

"The allegations made by several women in The New York Times about Louis C.K.’s behavior are disturbing," a Netflix spokesperson wrote to Business Insider on Friday morning. "Louis's unprofessional and inappropriate behavior with female colleagues has led us to decide not to produce a second stand up special, as had been planned."

The decision from Netflix follows a series of consequences for C.K.

The Orchard, the distribution company that bought Louis C.K.'s film, "I Love You, Daddy,"canceled the theatrical release of the film, which was scheduled to open next weekend.

Sean Astin talks about the most shocking scene from ‘Stranger Things 2’

The second season of Netflix's "Stranger Things" introduced viewers to Bob Newby (played by Sean Astin) a naive, tech geek and love interest of Joyce Byers. There's one scene that likely took viewers by surprise. We spoke wth Sean at the launch of the Sharper Image pop-up shop in Times Square to ask about the moment and how much he is like the character in the show. WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD. Following is a transcript of the video.

Sean Astin: Demodogs in "Stranger Things" are not well-trained. And they don't feed them. So that when it's time for them to eat an actor, there like genuinely hungry.

I didn't know what the exact fate of my character was. I knew that it wasn't going to be good. But I don't think they knew when I signed on how old Bob Newby was going to meet his fate. Meet his end.

But, no, when I finally read it, it was episode 8 that that happens. When I finally read that, it was it felt good, because it was sad that I was going to get killed off the show, but it was good, because it was like this is a heroic death, facing down the demodogs, rescuing everybody, and then dying a little.

You know, you can't see it when you're watching it, but they put kind of a baste on the costume. That really attracts them. They have incredible sense of smell.

So to be compared with Barb is a good thing, because it means that you're ... people have affection for you. You instantly liked her. She was the moral center with her relationship. And then you don't know what happens to her.

I was a card-carrying #JusticeforBarb foot soldier. Bob, on the other hand, gets to, he has a full range of experience, and it's it's no surprise what's happened to him. It's sad, so I don't think Bob Needs justice. It's nice to be remembered. I'm more of a Bob Newby superhero hashtag guy, personally, but it's not really up to me.

Am I good at brainteasers in real life?

You don't mean answering questions, you mean puzzles.

No. Hahaha ... I love them though! I love them

My dad used to have "Eyeball Benders." And other kinds of magazines that would test you and stuff. And when you finally get good at something, there's nothing more satisfying in the world. But unlike Bob Newby, I do not have the instant acuity to excel in that way.

I used to dream about the idea of something that could fly that would take pictures. When I was a little boy, 7 years old,  I dreamed about that. And now you can come to Sharper Image, and there's like little ones, and big ones and ones that hold digital cameras.

Chris Snyder: Have you flown a drone before?

Sean Astin: I have flown drones. Have I flown a drone? Yes, I have flown drones. I have flown drones into my aunt at Thanksgiving. That wasn't good. But now they have a feature in the drones that has automatic takeoff and landing, which I don't need. But it might be good to have.

I've raced drones with my kids in my house till they cry, because I will win.

Will we ever see Bob again? I don't know. He's pretty good and dead. But anything's possible in a series. So you never ... uh ...

I've heard some interesting theories. About how he's not really dead. About how he's actually a demogorgon himself. But I think that maybe a little ... It's very nice that people are trying to keep me around.

I told my daughter, who is a huge fan of the show, my 12-year-old daughter, Bella, I said, "What are you looking for in season 3?"

She said, "Oh, I don't know."

I said, "Well Bob will  just be watching from heaven."

And she goes ...

friends from college

Netflix has won over critics with a number of its original series, but the company has had its share of critical flops, too.

But critical reception can often mean next to nothing to the everyday viewer, who will flock to shows that critics have condemned, like the Netflix original comedy "Friends From College."

To find out which critically panned Netflix series are still beloved by audiences, we turned to the reviews aggregator Rotten Tomatoes to see which shows had significant discrepancies between their "critic" and "audience" scores.

We then ranked the shows by their audience scores, and we used the larger discrepancies to break any ties.

Here are 13 Netflix original shows that critics really hate, but audiences love:

Eleven Jane Stranger Things season 2 then now

Warning: Spoilers ahead for "Stranger Things" season two.

Netflix's breakout series "Stranger Things" has been captivating audiences with its numerous '80s movies references and stellar young cast since its debut in 2016.

For the actors, it was exactly a year between the start of filming on season one in November 2015 and returning for season two exactly one year later in 2016. About the same amount of time transpired for the characters between the seasons as well and it's pretty astounding how much had changed for them over the course of the show so far.

Let's take a look at how far Eleven, Mike, and the rest of the characters have come since we first saw them last year.

Mike Wheeler was introduced as the de facto leader of his group — always coming up with plans and standing up for his friends.

Mike and his friends, who call themselves "the party" in reference to their Dungeons and Dragons campaigns, were the odd ones out in school. Mike was usually the one to stand up to the bullies or reassure his buddies when things were looking dire.

After meeting Eleven and then seemingly losing her, Mike spent much of season two in a much darker mindset.

At the start of season two, it's apparent that the events of the first season left Mike seemingly depressed and prone to acting out. He was heartbroken by Eleven's disappearance, but sprang back into old-Mike action when it became clear Will needed his help once more.

Eleven appeared on the first season as a scared but capable young girl with a very limited understanding of the world.

Though Eleven was a powerful child with psychic powers, she had been raised in abusive captivity and didn't know basic concepts like friendship, promises, or Eggo waffles. But when she met Mike and his friends, her entire world changed.

Mike Wheeler snow ball surprised Stranger Things 2

Warning: Spoilers ahead for "Stranger Things" season two.

The final scene of "Stranger Things 2" was about as perfect as can be. From Dustin's totally tubular new Steve-inspired hairdo to Mike and Eleven's sweet reunion, the middle school Snow Ball dance was a phenomenal way to close out season two.

When INSIDER spoke with David Harbour, who plays Jim Hopper, we had to ask him one simple question: Did Hopper really help Eleven get ready for the school dance?

"There are two great mysteries of 'Stranger Things' and they have nothing to do with monsters or the Upside Down," Harbour said. "One great mystery is how Joyce and Hopper managed to put together that map of scribbles that Will drew. That is a tremendous mystery to all of us. And the second mystery is how the hell did Jim Hopper do Eleven's hair and makeup as well as he did?"

Fans have been emotional at the thought of Hopper helping his newly adopted daughter "Jane," aka Eleven, get ready for her first middle school dance.

Harbour is definitely giving Hopper all the credit for helping Eleven in his new official role as father.

"Maybe there is a secret talent that we don't know about Jim Hopper and his cosmetology school upbringing," Harbour said. "I think one of the things that is interesting is how this is a big deal, for him to let her have that night out."

In addition to Eleven's new dress, Hopper also gave her an important accessory — the blue bracelet he always wears.

Harbour told INSIDER the meaning behind the bracelet, which you can read more about here. The bracelet is an old hair tie his daughter, Sara, used to wear. Hopper keeps it around his wrist as a reminder of "his struggles and his guilt around not being about to save his child," as Harbour explained.

But Eleven is wearing it at the Snow Ball, signaling that Hopper has given this precious memento to his newly adopted daughter.

"I don't want to get too into that because that's something we may talk about sometime in season three," Harbour said. "It's something we'll delve more into in terms of Jim's daughter and him confronting this Eleven relationship and what that means."

Even though Harbour didn't want to elaborate on the connections between Eleven and Sara, he wasn't shy about explaining how important the Snow Ball night was for both Hopper and Eleven.

"Someone [online] caught me in an off-camera thing and I have a tie on," Harbour said. "The idea was perhaps that Hopper even puts on a tie for the first time in 20 years to bring his adopted daughter to this dance. So I think Hopper put a lot of effort and work into it, so maybe he went to Marissa, the librarian, and got some books out on how to do little girls' makeup."

"So if it was done well, he doesn't only build trip wires and know how to kill Demogorgons — this guy is also an amazing makeup artist," Harbour said. "You're welcome internet."

  • New survey data from Netflix shows that about 37% of Netflix users binge-watch while at work.
  • 67% of Netflix users watch Netflix outside of their homes.

In a new survey conducted by Netflix (via SurveyMonkey), about 37% of Netflix's US subscribers said they binge-watched while at work.

The data also revealed that about 67% binge-watch Netflix's shows and movies outside of their homes, while 60% said they'd increased their public binge-watching within the last year.

That makes sense considering Netflix began allowing its subscribers to download shows and movies on the Netflix mobile apps just last year, giving the option to watch content "offline" instead of using mobile data.

The ability to more easily watch Netflix's content offline could explain why subscribers are now binge-watching wherever they go — including public bathrooms. 12% of US subscribers confessed to watching Netflix in public restrooms, according to the survey.

Eleven and Hopper table Stranger Things 2

Warning: Spoilers ahead for "Stranger Things" season two.

The season finale of "Stranger Things 2" ended on a heartfelt note with Eleven and Mike reunited at the Snow Ball. But an almost sweeter moment came minutes earlier when it was revealed that Jim Hopper had acquired official documents naming Eleven (now Jane Hopper) as his daughter.

But how will these relationships play out in the coming seasons? INSIDER spoke with David Harbour about the new father-daughter dynamic between Hopper and Eleven.

"One of the fun things moving forward in terms of this new family we have with Hopper and Eleven — and the fact that she's becoming a teenager and a young woman — is I think that is going to be infinitely complex and f----- up for Hopper," Harbour said. "I don't think he knows how to handle this at all."

Hopper has known that Mike and Eleven have a burgeoning preteen romance, and even seemed to conveniently choose to interrupt what was about to be their first kiss of season two.

"[Laughing] People were so mad about that!" Harbour said. "Whatever. It was the wrong time, all right? There's a time and place. We gotta go to the lab and kill some Demodogs godd-----, and close the gate. There's no time for kissing! I can't believe that people were mad at me over that."

Harbour said his character is clearly trying to be supportive, though, given how he approached the Snow Ball at the end of season two.

"But look, I brought her to the dance and I was well aware of what would happen," Harbour said. "And I let her go in by herself and I waited outside with Joyce, all right?"

Hopper even gave Eleven his special bracelet (which used to be his daughter Sara's hair tie) to wear to the Snow Ball.

But Harbour says he can definitely envision a future scene where Hopper needs to have the "dad talk" with Mike about dating his newly adopted daughter as the kids enter high school.

"The fun thing about the dad aspect of Hopper is going to be how he handles a teenage daughter and her relationship to a boy like Mike," Harbour said. "So there may be that conversation where he has to sit Mike down on the couch when he comes calling for the date and she's getting ready, and Hopper will be like 'Sit on the couch — what are your intentions with my daughter?'"

Hopper Eleven in car Stranger things 2 finale

"That scene may be coming in season three," Harbour said. "I would relish that, because the amount of difficulty it'd take for Hopper to do that is going to be pretty hysterical."

We'll have to wait for "Stranger Things" season three to see exactly how this dynamic will play out, but as Harbour assures fans, it's guaranteed to be interesting.
