In her book "Netflixed," Gina Keating writes that Amazon offered to buy Netflix in 1999 for $12 million.

CNET first wrote about Keating's anecdote.

In 1999, Amazon's CEO Jeff Bezos and Netflix's CEO Reed Hastings met to figure out how the two companies could form a partnership. Bezos ended up offering to buy the company, but Hastings turned him down. The books says Hastings didn't think the offer was high enough.

Eventually, Amazon would go on to launch Amazon Instant Video, a Netflix competitor that lets you stream movies and TV shows.

CNET has some more details from "Netflixed" >

UPDATE: A Netflix representative reached out to us denying the report in Keating's book.
