Why bother getting out and trying to beat the heat? Stay cool and keep your calender clear – the most binge-worthy shows of the year are coming this summer.

Prestige television has long followed the traditional fall to summer TV format, but in this Netflix and Hulu dominated market, some of the most critically acclaimed shows on TV are out during the summer months: USA's dark conspiracy thriller "Mr. Robot" and Netflix's brooding family drama "Bloodlines" both had hugely applauded first seasons and promises even more excitement this year.

But of all the summer shows, Tech Insider is most excited about the very first. 2016's summer TV schedule kicks of with AMC's "Preacher," a supernatural neo-western long thought too raunchy for television. But that's not the only show to be excited about.

Here are the shows you should check out while you try to stay cool:

"Preacher" (Netflix)

Premiere date: Sunday, May 22 at 10:00 p.m. EST

A fallen preacher, his ex, and his vampire best friend set out on a quest to find God in this adaptation of the Garth Ennis graphic novel series. The comics were both explicitly violent and brutally satirical of mainstream religion and fans have waited years to see a live-action version. It's the perfect start to a strong summer line-up. Read our review of the first episode (the casting is nearly pitch perfect) and watch the trailer

"Wayward Pines" (Fox)

Premiere date: Wednesday, May 25 at 9:00 p.m. EST

Based on the "Wayward Pines" novels from Blake Couch, the first season followed a secret service agent tracking the disappearance of two fellow agents to a small town. When he finally arrives, he clashes with the town sheriff, who executes any town members who try to leave the town or contact the outside world. Season 2 will return to the mysterious Wayward Pines with a new protagonist, CJ Patrick, played by Oscar nominee Djimon Hounsou. King of the surprise twist, M. Night Shyamalan, will return as executive producer. Check out the trailer.

"Bloodline" (Netflix)

Premiere date: May 27

"Bloodline" follows the dark workings of the Rayburn family, hotel owners in the Florida keys with sinister criminal ties brought to light when the "black sheep" of the family returns home. Season one ended with a game-changing murder and season two promises to sink even deeper into the family's secrets. Check out the trailer.
