Netflix The Crown

Netflix is set to roll out 600 hours of original content this year, including a new 10-episode drama series called "The Crown," which takes a close look at the early life and reign of Queen Elizabeth II.

Claire Foy stars in the role of Queen Elizabeth II. "Doctor Who" fans will recognize Matt Smith in his role as Prince Phillip and John Lithgow stars as Sir Winston Churchill. Victoria Hamilton, Jared Harris, Vanessa Kirby, and Dame Eileen Atkins round out the show's cast.

Here's the official synopsis for the series via Netflix:

"The Crown" focuses on Queen Elizabeth II as a 25-year-old newlywed faced with the daunting prospect of leading the world’s most famous monarchy while forging a relationship with legendary Prime Minister, Sir Winston Churchill. The British Empire is in decline, the political world is in disarray, and a young woman takes the throne....a new era is dawning. Peter Morgan's masterfully researched scripts reveal the Queen's private journey behind the public facade with daring frankness. Prepare to be welcomed into the coveted world of power and privilege and behind locked doors in Westminster and Buckingham Palace....the leaders of an empire await.

The series doesn't have an official release date yet, but it'll be available on Netflix sometime in 2016. Until then, you can watch the entire trailer here or below.
