Netflix just launched in 130 more countries, and the stock is soaring (NFLX)

Netflix went live in 130 new countries on Wednesday, a significant expansion of the online video service's reach that cheered up investors.

Shares of Netflix popped nearly 6% on Tuesday after CEO Reed Hastings announced the new markets during a speech at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. Hastings said Netflix was live in 60 countries before the keynote speech but by the end was live in 130 more.

Among the countries getting Netflix for the first time: Azerbaijan, Vietnam, India, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Turkey, and Indonesia.

One big country missing from the list, however, is China, the world's largest market by internet users. Hastings said Netflix was not going into China yet but hoped to be there soon.

In China, you need specific permission from the government, Hastings told the press. "We’re continuing to work on that,” he said, emphasizing that the company is being very patient. Hastings asserted that Netflix would eventually be a success in China, but that it would take time.
